COURSE IN ENDOCRINOLOGY

• Advance course in Endocrinology was held on 18th and 19th of April, 2008 in College of Physicians and surgeons Pakistan. The General Practitioners and the Family Physicians were invited to participate to create awareness regarding common endocrine problems
• 3 lectures were in a day. It was a 2 day Certificate Course.

• 6th National Symposium “Endocrine Challenges of Developing World 2008” was held in Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi, Pakistan on Nov 1-2, 2008.

PES CLINICAL MEETING.

• PES clinical meetings were held every month for GP’s, Post graduate trainees and Medical students in different locations to facilitate the doctors.

• Punjab to be organized/coordinated by Dr. Abbas Raza
• Peshawar, NWFP to be organized/coordinated by Dr. A.H Aamir.

Public Awareness Program:

• Dr. Tasneem Ahsan to organized/coordinate this public awareness program.
• Theme would be Thyroid.

CERTIFICATE COURSES

• It was decided to endorse the certificate courses from institutions with PES, as every institution is engaged in conducting one certificate course a year. If required a Certificate Course as last year would also be organized
  

7th ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

• 7th Annual symposium would be held in Karachi this year.
• The tentative dates were decided to be 19th and 20th of December, 2009.
• It will be a 2 day based symposium.
• All corporate members are requested to explore the possibility of bringing / sponsoring foreign speakers.
• The venue would be PC or some other 4/5 star hotel in the city.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

• It was decided that PES would encourage two research projects this year and would tune a sum of 100,000 each.

• It was suggested that the corporate should be informed about the PES clinical meeting so that can pass on to doctors and end up in bigger attendance in these meetings.
• Corporate to be involved in the certificate courses.
• Media should be used to for public awareness regarding Endocrine diseases and also against quakes who are claiming cure for certain Endocrine diseases.
• As to the theme “Thyroid” for Public Awareness this year, it was suggested that other major diseases like Diabetes and reluctance of using insulin should also be addressed in Public Awareness Programs.
• It was suggested to use Video Conferencing in Annual Symposium as a way of involving foreign speakers, particularly when security situation in the country in not conducive for foreign speakers to attend.

• It was stressed that assigning corporate members for CME/ Public Awareness Program should be very transparent.
