5th National Endocrine Symposium of Pakistan Endocrine Society

5th National Symposium of Pakistan Endocrine Society is the year's largest activity of the Pakistan Endocrine Society. It was held in PC Lahore and was attended by large number of health professionals (Endocrinologists and Family Physicians) from all over Pakistan. There were also immenent speakers from abroad.

On 1st September, there was a Lilly Satellite Symposium along with Welcome address by the PES. A state of art lecture on "Insulin Analogues" was delivered by Dr. Jaweed Akhter (AKU) and was highly appreciated by the audience. Audience from different hospitals asked several questions which made the discussion quite interesting.

The formal conference proceedings took place on 2nd September, started with a formal Tilawat, breaskfast and registration. Dr. Yaqoob Ahmadani from Baqai Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology, delivered a lecture of "Metabolic Syndrome". It was then preceeded by a State of Art lecture on "Causes and Consequences of Severe Obesity - Lessons from Genetic Studies" by Dr. Sadaf Farooqui. She came from Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK. It was an excellent lecture on the obesity and was highly appreciated by the Audience. Later, she was asked several important questions regarding her talk.

Other lectures include "Thyroid Nodule - Fear of Unknown" by Dr. Abbas Raza from Shaukhat Khanum Memorial Hospital, Lahore; "Management of type 2 DM - Future directions" by Professor Zaman Shaikh, Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi; "Case Scenarios - Answers you need to know!" by Professor Abdul Jabbar from Aga Khan University, Karachi; "Bones, Stones and Psychic Moans" by Dr. Zakir Alavi, Liaquat National Hospital, Karachi; "Hormone replacement in adults- Fountain of youth??" by Dr. Ali Jawa, King Edward University Hospital, Lahore; and "Hirsutism - Its not just looks" by Dr. Aisha Sheikh from Aga Khan University Hospital Karachi.

It was a great event of the day and everybody who attended the conference appreciated the Pakistan Endocrine Society for arranging such a great and informative event.

At the end, there was an Executive Committee Members Meeting of Pakistan Endocrine Society.
