MSc in Endocrinology and Diabetes

Dow University of Health Sciences has commenced two year post graduate Master’s training program leading to M.S.c Diploma in Endocrinology and Diabetes, under the directorship of Prof. Zaman Sheikh from 14th January, 2008 at National Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology. This is one of another great achievement of Dow University of Health Science, Karachi. This diploma is first of its kind in Pakistan ether in private or public universities. This is two year diploma Master’s course with four semesters, first two in diabetes and second two in rest of endocrinology. The faculty will include senior professors of DUHS and renowned endocrinologists and diabetelogists of the country. Collaboration with overseas university is in process. There will be rotation of candidates in orthopedic, medical ICU, Pediatrics, General Medicine and Gyne & Obs departments of DUHS, Ziauddin Hospital and NICH.
Aims and objectives of course are to provide a sound background of clinical diabetes and endocrinology and relevant research methodology for physicians training in diabetes, endocrinology and related disciplines. This course provides a major contribution to the training requirements for this specialty.
The program covers basic and clinical science relating to diabetes mellitus and including pathophysiology, clinical aspects, laboratory assessment & research methodology including basic statistics and audit. Entrance test for admission of 10 candidates in this MSc program consists of 100 MCQs (Single Best Type). In first year, 100 candidates appeared, out of which 1st 10 were selected. Entry criteria is MBBS degree plus one year house job, 6 months compulsory in General Medicine. Final selection is made on the basis of an entrance test.
