Assalam-o-Alaikum,
Its my pleasure that we are bringing out this issue of newsletter on the occasion of “5th Annual Endocrine Symposium being held on 1 – 2 September, 2007”. This is the first time that we are organizing this event in Lahore – the city of Minar-e-Pakistan and Badshahi Mosque and are expecting a successful event.
In few days time the holy month of Ramadan will also commence. Many of our patients with diabetes want to fast during this month and this is the right time to make them visit diabetic clinics, to arrange seminars and meetings to educate our diabetic patients. A recent study at “Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology” revealed that many of the patients do not appropriately change their medication timings, physically activity schedule and do not monitor their blood glucose during the fasting leading to avoidable complications. There are many misconceptions too! So it is imperative to discuss and educate our diabetic patients about how to fast safely during Ramadan;
PES has published guidelines regarding Diabetes and Ramadan. Its my pleasure to inform you that this year we are also bringing out the urdu version of the same.
