PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
As new President of Pakistan Endocrine Society, I would like to welcome all the members of the society and would look forward to working with all of you to strengthen the field of Endocrinology in Pakistan. I would like to thank the Executive members of the society for showing confidence and electing me as the President of Pakistan Endocrine Society for the current term.
I would like to outline my plan of activities during my tenure as President till November, 2011.
With the help of my colleagues, I would like to strengthen the infrastructure of the society and introduce audit of accounts to increase the transparency in financial matters. We plan to make efforts to increase the membership of the society and this can only be achieved if the membership of Pakistan Endocrine Society is made beneficial and attractive to the members in different ways and not remain a mere membership paper only.
Pakistan Endocrine Society plans to collaborate with Regional Endocrine Societies and the International Society of Endocrinology. The collaboration plan with International Society of Endocrinology has progressed and now Pakistan Endocrine Society has become a member of this organization.
With the efforts of Pakistan Endocrine Society and others, the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan has recognized Endocrinology as a subspecialty with the introduction of FCPS in Endocrinology.
We would like to continue with our CME activities for medical professions with increased vigor. Pakistan Endocrine Society plans to hold at least four CME’s in 2009 and further CME’s in collaboration with corporate members are also planned.
We have started Public Awareness Programs by doing the first program at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on “Thyroid” and hope to do similar and better programs in the future.
The PES Annual Symposium has been scheduled for December 19- 20, 2009 and efforts are underway to make it a very attractive event particularly the scientific program component. An important decision by PES has been the introduction of Grants for Electives and Research for trainees/fellows every year. Call for submission of applications for this would be announced soon.
I look forward to suggestions, ideas and thoughts and support of all members of Pakistan Endocrine Society in my endeavors to improve strengthen and propagate Endocrinology in Pakistan under the umbrella of Pakistan Endocrine Society
