Activities of Pakistan Endocrine Society:
Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES) has been successfully arranging seminar, meeting and awareness programs across Pakistan. This had added significantly in the credibility of this society.
1. CME Sukkur
: One of these CME was organized in Sukkur (30-05-09). Dr Aysha Habib and Dr. Saeed Mahar (from Karachi) and Dr Abrar Shaikh (Professor of Medicine) contributed in organizing this successful event at Interpark in Hotel.
2. Another successful event was organized with collaboration of Eli Lilly “Diabetes Face to Face - New challenges, new goals and Improved outcomes” at Pearl Continental Hotel Karachi (May 2009). This event attracted opinion leaders and generated lot of enthusiasm among participants.
3. Diabetes Workshop: Another commendable effort by PES was in collaboration with Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) which resulted in a hugely successful workshop on Diabetes. Due to overwhelming interest of physicians, this workshop is scheduled to be done on three different occasions. Two of these meeting have already been successfully completed and final is scheduled for after EID. The main objective of this workshop was to train and update family physicians for the evidence based management of diabetes mellitus in their clinical set up. This was a six module workshop of total 15 credit hours started from 24th May 2009.
4. Another worthwhile activity was organized with sponsorship of Johnsons and Johnsons at Pearl Continental, Karachi on 28th July, 2009. Topic was “Applying and Innovative Blood Glucose Monitoring Approach in Treating-To-Target”
5. Thyroid Awareness Program:: A Thyroid awareness campaign and program hosted was hosted Pakistan Endocrine society on July 11, at JPMC auditorium in Karachi, which attracted lots of enthusiasm. The importance and compulsory use iodized salt was highlighted in this meeting. The purpose of the event was to create awareness among the general public about thyroid diseases. Presentations on various aspects of thyroid diseases were given to the public to help them have a better understanding of the diseases.
