I would like to take this opportunity to report the proceedings of the joint 5th Pakistan Endocrine Society – AACE Pakistan chapter CME 2016, held at POF Hotel, Wah Cantt on Tuesday, October 25th, 2016. This activity was approved for 2 credit hours: certificates were given to participants immediately after the conclusion of the CME activity.

Prof Zafar Iqbal Malik (Chief Guest), Dr. Shahid Nawaz (Patron-in-chief) and Dr. Syed Asad Ali (President, PAFP Taxila, Wah Cantt, Hassan Abdal) chaired the session.

More than 150 Family Physicians, Medical Specialist and Consultants from Taxila, Wah Cantt and Hassan Abdal attended the program.

The program started around 7:00 pm with the recitation from the Holy Quran by Hafiz Irfan. Afterward, the Moderator introduced and invited chairperson and speakers to
take their seats on the stage.

Colonel Dr. Shahid Ahmed, Consultant Endocrinologist and Head, Department of Endocrinology, MH Rawalpindi presented his talk titled “Evaluation of Thyroid Nodule”. He discussed the role of investigations including thyroid ultrasound and FNA-C in the diagnosis of thyroid neoplasms.

Dr. Osama Ishtiaq, Consultant Endocrinologist, Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad gave a presentation titled “Approach to the patient with Male Infertility”. His talk provided a simple road map to how to perform diagnostic workup without creating untoward anxiety or raise unrealistic expectations among the couple.

Prof Dr. Ali Jawa, Head and professor of endocrinology, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, discussed “Recent advances in the management of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus” His talk also discussed the emerging role of stem cell transplantation for treatment of type 2 diabetes and he shared local data including preliminary trial results at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad with the audience.

Question Answers session was well addressed by the honorable speakers. The Moderator appreciated the audience for their active and responsive presence.

On behalf of the Pakistan Endocrine Society, Prof Dr. Ali Jawa thanked the audience for providing the opportunity to share knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of common endocrine disorders. He apprised and invited them of the upcoming 14th Annual PES Conference November 18-20, 2016 being held at Serena Hotel, Islamabad.
