It is with great honor that I assume the role of President of the Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES) for the term January 2026 to December 2027. I am thrilled to lead our dedicated community and thank you for your commitment to advancing endocrinology and public health in Pakistan. PES serves as the collective voice of Endocrine Specialists across Pakistan. PES is not only comprised of endocrinologists but also includes general physicians, research scholars, post-graduate trainees, nurses and educators in various membership categories.
The Pakistan Diabetes Prevention Program (PAK-DPP) is the flagship initiative of the Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES), encompassing all four provinces of Pakistan and the Federal Capital, Islamabad.
Launched in November 2019, the program is led by Prof. Abdul Basit, Dr. Arshad Hussain and Dr Ibrar Ahmed with core team members Dr. Asima Khan Niazi and Dr. Nazish Waris. PAK-DPP aims to establish a nationwide primary prevention program to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in Pakistan.
Focusing on early detection and prevention, PAK-DPP targets modifiable risk factors such as smoking, obesity, and sedentary lifestyles. Teams of diabetes educators and nutritionists, in collaboration with various medical specialties, work together to ensure comprehensive care for Diabetes prevention.
